Surge protection

Overvoltages caused by lightning or switching operations can destroy sensitive electronics in a fraction of a second. We design and install a coordinated protection concept – from the incoming supply to the end device.

Surge protection

Scope of services

  • 01Lightning current and surge arresters type 1, 2 and 3
  • 02Combined arresters in main and sub-distribution boards
  • 03Protection of control and data lines
  • 04Main earthing terminal and protective equipotential bonding
  • 05Retrofitting in existing installations
  • 06Inspection and replacement of tripped arresters

Your benefits

  • Required

For new and substantially modified installations, DIN VDE 0100-443 requires surge protection in most cases.

  • Coordinated

Staged protection diverts energy where it occurs – before it reaches your equipment.

  • Cost-effective

An arrester costs a fraction of what a failed controller, server or inverter would.

Standards & regulations

We work to the recognised rules of technology, including:

  • DIN VDE 0100-443
  • DIN VDE 0100-534
  • DIN EN 61643-11
  • DIN VDE 0100-540

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is surge protection mandatory?

For new and substantially modified installations, DIN VDE 0100-443 requires protective measures against overvoltages in most cases. We will gladly check what applies to your installation.

Do I also need a lightning protection system on the roof?

External lightning protection is a separate trade. Independently of it, internal surge protection protects your electrical installation – we advise you on the right combination for your building.

How can I tell whether an arrester has tripped?

Modern arresters have a status indicator, usually a window that changes from green to red. During maintenance we check every arrester and replace tripped modules.
